Recently, GDC’s short animated film, The Legend of Shangri-la, was invited to participate in The 7th Asia Pacific Triennial of Contemporary Art (APT7).
The 7th Asia Pacific Triennial of Contemporary Art (APT7) will be held in the Queensland Art Gallery/ Gallery of Modern Art from December 8th, 2012 to April 14th, 2013. It is the most influential and charismatic modern art event in the Pacific region, as well as the world’s only exhibition where contemporary art series from Australia and the Asia-Pacific region are presented. It is expected to attract more than 50,000 visitors worldwide. The current APT session will continue to explore the integration of contemporary art with history, geography, humanity, and culture. In addition, on its 20th Anniversary, APT will exhibit the recent works of 75 artists and groups from 27 different countries in the Asia-Pacific region.
In the film category of the exhibition, GDC’s The Legend of Shangri-la, as one of the representatives of outstanding animated films from China, will be presented in the Landscape theme unit. The short film’s poster is also used as the cover of the film exhibition brochure. The Legend of Shangri-la was derived from the masterpiece of the poet, Yuanming Tao, telling the story of the adventures of a fisherman straying into a wonderland. The short animated film combined a variety of artistic techniques, such as traditional Chinese ink, shadow puppets, paper cutting, and Chinese freestyle painting. A variety of 3D animation technologies were integrated impeccably, creating a unique style and unexpected surprises for the audience visually. The Legend of Shangri-la had won numerous awards both internationally and domestically, including best Chinese Short Film Grand Prize at TBS DigiCon6 Awards in Tokyo and Monkey King Award, etc.
GDC has maintained its high standard in 3D animation technology over the years. The quality animated films and television shows GDC has produced received many public attentions and recognitions worldwide. This opportunity to present The Legend of Shangri-la at APT7 will broaden the influences that GDC has in the global market. It will also demonstrate GDC’s capabilities to use 3D technologies in illustrating art.
